18 MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACES IN SAUDI ARABIA MAP
As I have a lot of Muslim readers, in this list, I’m also going to include Mecca and the Propet’s Mosque in Medina.
When visiting Saudi Arabia, keep in mind that Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque are the only places where non-Muslims are not allowed to enter.
There are a bunch of different lists of the best places to visit in Saudi Arabia. In this list, I collected the most unique highlights in Saudi Arabia.
1. RIJAL ALMA HERITAGE VILLAGE – #1 MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE IN SAUDI ARABIA

Rijal Almaa Heritage Village in the southwestern part of Saudi Arabia
Rijal Almaa is a drop-dead gorgeous village in the southwestern part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia about 50 km (~31 miles) from the city of Abha.
In my opinion, this is the most beautiful Saudi Arabian village and one of the most beautiful places in the Middle East.
The main tourist attraction of this more than 900 years old village is the Rijal Almaa Museum as part of the Rijal Almaa Heritage Village which is a renovated building complex with stunning architecture.
This building complex features beautiful colorful buildings made of stone, clay, and wood. Walking around here feels like being part of a fairy tale.
There are still a lot of old buildings around the museum that are not renovated, in case you want to explore.

ENTRANCE FOR RIJAL ALMAA
40 riyals (~10 USD)
HOW TO GET TO THE RIJAL ALMAA HERITAGE VILLAGE
First, you have to travel to Abha. The best way to get there is by plane. I flew to Abha from Jeddah with the Saudi low-cost airline called Flynas.
More about the Saudi national airlines, here, in my main Saudi Arabia travel guide: How to get around Saudi Arabia
Once, you are in Abha, rent a car. There is no public transport in Abha and there is no public transport to Rijal Almaa.
I rented a car in Abha so that I can easily get to this beautiful gingerbread village in Saudi.
There are two ways to get to Rijal Almaa from Abha.
One of them is about one hour from Abha. It’s the road that Google Maps directs you. It’s a very steep mountain road with sharp curves.
I didn’t take this one because I wasn’t comfortable with driving there completely alone. I took a detour using Dhila Road. The journey in this case can take about 2 hours instead of 1 hour. But it’s much safer and more comfortable.
On the way, pay attention and if you are lucky, you will meet cute baboons that normally gather in parking areas on the way.
2. AL-BALAD aka OLD JEDDAH – #2 MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE IN SAUDI ARABIA

Old buildings in the old district of Jeddah, Al Balad, in Saudi Arabia
Al-Balad, also known as Old Jeddah, is one of my favorite places in Saudi Arabia. As the name says, it’s the old part of Jeddah.
Al-Balad is one of the most famous places in Saudi Arabia and one of the most beautiful places in Jeddah.

The old district of Jeddah, Al Balad, early afternoon when everything is closed – Saudi Arabia
This old district which was founded in the 7th century is a fascinating World Heritage Site.
Back in the 7th century up until the oil boom in the 1970s, Al Balad was the commercial center of Jeddah. Today, it’s famous for its ancient architecture and old traditional buildings. The houses were built with coral stone and decorated with lattice windows.

5. MASJID AL-HARAM aka THE GREAT MOSQUE OF MECCA – #5 MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACE IN SAUDI ARABIA

The most sacred site in Islam, Islam’s most important mosque, the Masjid al-Haram with the Kaaba in the center in Mecca, Saudi Arabia
Masjid Al Haram, also known as the Great Mosque of Mecca is the most important mosque in the Islamic World situated in the city of Mecca.
This is the mosque that surrounds the Kaaba which is the most sacred site in Islam. This is where Muslims come to perform the annual pilgrimage called Hajj.
Hajj is a religious duty that Muslims must undertake at least once in their life provided that they are physically and financially able to carry out the journey.
Muslims consider the Kaaba (also referred to as Kabah), the House of God. It’s also the qibla that indicates the direction in which Muslims must pray.

WHAT TO WEAR IN THE HOLY CITY OF MECCA
Muslim men typically wear traditional attire from their home countries or Western clothing. Women dress conservatively in long, loose-fitting clothing, and cover their hair with a head scarf (hijab) and cap (special cover under the hijab) rather than a loose scarf.
If you are in Saudi Arabia, make sure you check out Saudi traditional dresses and get one for yourself for visiting the kingdom.

As for the Prophet’s Mosque, it’s definitely the way to go. Of course, if you have traditional dresses with a headscarf from Pakistan or other Muslim countries, they are also fine.
